Satern Front Sight Alignment Tool

Basic Instructions

The Satern Front Sight Alignment Tool is a tool to quickly align (windage wise) clamp on, ladder or other adjustable front sights with the windage zero you desire for your rear sight.

If you follow the simple instructions below you can quickly align your front sight with your rear sight with a minimum amount of effort.

Let’s get started! First ensure that the windage of the rear sight is at the zero you desire. For most shooters this is middle of travel in order to provide the maximum amount of windage each way once the process has been completed. Once you do this, set your windage scale to zero. Next, fire one shot at the center of a safe target (the distance to your target does not matter but we recommend 100 yds). Adjust the rear sight windage as necessary, repeat firing and adjusting your windage until your point of impact (for windage) is the center of the target. Once this is complete the amount of windage error that the front sight has can be quickly determined by counting the amount of clicks that it takes to return the rear sight back to zero (on your windage scale). For instance, if the rear sight has to be moved 12 clicks to the right to come back to zero, then the front sight will need to be moved the equivalent of 12 clicks to the right. This actual distance can be determined by using the attached chart. For instance, using the same example and using a Redfield Palma sight, the front sight needs moved the equivalent of 12 clicks or 12 x 0.002” = 0.024” to the right. This is accomplished by mounting the Satern Front Sight Alignment Tool to the barrel and placing the indicator on the front sight at a height approximately even with the center of the aperture of the front sight. Once the tool is mounted and tightened with the indicator depressed, the dial can be set on zero. The front sight can then be loosened and moved 0.024” as indicated on the dial. This will be a very small movement but can easily be seen on the dial. Once the movement has been completed and the front sight is secured, the alignment tool can be removed. A verification shot at a safe target is always recommended to ensure that the front sight was moved in the proper direction and to confirm that your windage zero is correct.
